Chapter 5
I Have Interests

What does the Austin like to do? There are so many things! Which is why I placed this page into my autobio. Of course, most my interests are covered in other sections of my waste of webspace. However, there may be something that I missed. So, here we go...

Reading
I like to read a lot. I read mostly Science Fiction/Fantasy. However, I do enjoy the occasional "normal" fiction novel. Some of my favorite authors include Roger Zelazny, Robert Jordan, Neil Simon (playwright, I know), and Gregory Maguire. Usually I mention the current status on whatever book I'm reading at the moment on my Journal posts.

Piano Playing!Music
Music has always been a big part of my life. My mother played the piano my whole life, and I started taking lessons in 5th grade. I played a little trumpet in Jr. High and even tried to learn a little guitar in high school. Piano has always been my favorite though. In college, I started getting more involved in musical theatre. Playing piano while my friends sing has always been one of my most favoite things. I also never leave home without my iPod!

Writing
I've been writing since I was in grade school. I think ghost stories were my first genre preference. I later evolved into Science Fiction and then to Fantasy. Now, most of my body of works include school papers and articles. However, I am currently working on some Young Adult fiction. One is humorous and the other is serious. Well, I haven't actually written anything on the serious one, but it's all semi-worked out in my head. If you're curious as to some of the pieces I have written, head over to my Writings page.

Movies
I love watching movies! I like nearly every type of movie (except for dumb horror movies and westerns). Going to the movie theater is something that I like to do as much as possible. However, I do rent movies quite a bit to watch in my dorm room. My ultimate goal in life is to be a Hollywood director, so I think it's safe to say that movies are my passion. All of the movies that I have recently seen as well as the ones that I want to see are usually talked about in my Journal.

Video
Along the lines of movie watching, I also enjoy movie making. I have done several small projects for classes or just for fun. Most of these are humorous or just plain silly in nature, but some of them are serious. It's just a wide-open art form that can be expressed in so many different ways. So many considerations go into film-making that two directors filming the same subject would present it in two totally different ways. It's so much fun!

Video Games
I am a huge RPG fan. I think that my life would have been less enriched if it wasn't for Squaresoft and Final Fantasy. There's really not a lot to do in Belzoni, so when I go home, I am usually absorbed in a video game. Oh, in case you were wondering, RPGs take an enormous amount of time to complete. Some of them, if you play them straight through without taking on extra (and super-fun) side quests, take over 90 hours to complete. Of course, I have spent probably twice that to complete some of them. Some of my favorites include World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, and anything Final Fantasy.

Romeo & JulietTheatre
I am almost always involved in some sort of theatrical project. From acting to directing (and even a little writing), I love everything about the theatre. It all started in high school and I haven't stopped yet! To see more about shows that I have done and shows that I am possible about to do, check out my Theater page.

Friends
My friends are great! In fact, I have devoted a little space on my website devoted to the closest ones. I try to spend a lot of time with these guys, because they're so special! If you don't do anything else on my website, please go and see how great these peeps are. In fact, all you have to do is click here to do just that.

Well, thus concludes (for now) the exciting thrill ride that is my life. Of course, being not-dead, this area will be updated in the future. For now, I hope you have a better appreciation for the madness that is my mind. Ciao!
