Chapter 2
I Go to College

Mississippi CollegeAh, Mississippi College. Home of the mighty Choctaws. Land of the free... or something. I entered this fine institution in the Fall of 2001. My mother had gone there, like in the 1800s (just kidding mom), and she had told me all about it. I knew I wasn't going to a community college, and my only other schools I was interested in were Ole Miss and Mississippi State. However, MC was the only place that I could get the atmosphere that I was seeking. I never looked back. Mississippi College was wonderful, and I will always treasure the experiences and friends I gained from there.

Here are some of the various activities I was involved in at MC:

Theater
MC Tribal Players As a proud member of the Mississippi College Tribal Players, I participated in several production while at MC. These included Romeo & Juliet (Romeo), You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Linus and musical director), The Misanthrope (Alceste), and A Midsummer Night's Dream (Philostrate), among others. I made so many friends through theater at MC. Friends, as you can imagine, that are in various states of weird (but aren't we all). I was recognized by the Theater department my senior year with the Best Male in a Lead Role award at the end of the year ceremony.

Civitan
Melissa and me... FISHY FACE!At Mississippi College, we did not have fraternities, being a Baptist university. Instead, we had service clubs, which is basically the same thing without all the Greek. My club was Civitan, the biggest and best club, of course. Anyone who has pledged a fraternity knows, you have a special bond with pledge brothers that you may never share with anyone else your entire life. So it was with Civitan. I was in the club all four of my years at MC, even serving as Social Chairman my junior year. Those are my brothers, and I'd do anything for those guys.

Classes
Brandon and me - I love RC!My major MC was Communications with an emphasis in Media and a minor in Theater. Within my department, I did a little bit of everything from working at the campus radio station (WHJT Star 93.5) to writing for the school newspaper (The Mississippi Collegian). When graduation came, I was awarded the Todd Communication Award, the highest award given by the Communications Department.

After graduation, I picked up stakes and moved down to Tampa Bay, Florida. Thus began a new journey in Austin's life in the "real world."
